Happy birthday, Milo!

Awwwww, it was lovely to say happy birthday to Milo the Jack Russell this week.

And to host our first doggy party at Rachel’s Woofers!

Axel the handsome (and massive!) Briard even brought a present for the great friend he’s made since they both started coming to doggy daycare with us a couple of days a week.

If you want an insight into how much we love dogs here, then take a look below (yes, that is a pork pie cake… and yes, that is pawsecco and dog beer!).

Woofer gang!

Another lovely week welcoming new doggies

Axel and Reggie making friends!

It’s been lovely to be able to welcome some more new doggies into the Rachel’s Woofers pack this week!

You got to meet Milo the Jack Russell, Stan and Theo the CockerPoos, Holly the lab (plus our very own lab, Charlotte, and Rachel’s cousin’s collie, Jess) last week.

We’re absolutely in love with all of them, and were delighted that they’ve all been to back to Rachel’s Woofers doggy daycare again this week – several times!

This week, say a big hello to Reggie the French Bulldog puppy, Axel the Briard and our friends’ two lovely labs, Bowen and Oscar!

And guess what… we’ve fallen in love with them too, and look forward to them returning to play next week and beyond!!

If you’re considering doggy daycare as opposed to a dog walker or kennels and would like your woofer to join our gang, please give us a call to arrange a visit on 01937 519 669. We’d be delighted to meet you and your furry friend(s)!

What a great first week!

Well, what a fantastic first week of business it’s been!

I’d like to say a HUGE ‘thank you!’ to all the doggy owners that have put their faith in us by sending their woofers to play with us when we’re still a sort of unproven quantity. We hope that we’ve repaid that faith by giving their furry friends the kind of fun, stimulating and reassuring doggy daycare that they were expecting.

Of course, we actually hope we’ve exceeded their expectations, and to build a reputation for delivering the best doggy daycare experience in the Wetherby area (and further afield).

As you can see from the pictures and videos in this blog post, our furry customers – Holly, Milo, Stan and Theo – DEFINITELY enjoyed it!

And we hope images like these and the getting about of word-of-mouth (plus other things we’re doing on the PR front… watch this space!) will encourage other dog owners in the Wetherby, Harrogate and North Leeds areas to send their woofers to us.

To finish, we’re happy to tell you that there will be some new features and improvements coming in the very near future.

So, what actually is doggy daycare…?

Jess at Rachel's Woofer doggydaycare Wetherby

Lovely Jess

Doggy daycare is a relatively new concept in the UK, and something you’d more readily associate with cities like London, LA, New York, Manchester, and the like (we even have a friend that uses a doggy daycare centre in Dubai!).

Yet doggy daycare has spread quickly, as people begin to realise that all-day kennels might be perfectly secure, but some dogs don’t take to them too well; and kennels aren’t the most stimulating of environments.

Equally, we’ve got nothing at all against dog walkers and have had to use them ourselves in the past, but they often only take your dog out for an hour, and sometimes with a good portion of that time spent being transported about the place.

We’re not here to bash kennels or dog walkers. Far from it. But we – and other doggy daycare providers – do provide a real and (we, and many others, think) better alternative. We provide all-day care for your dog in a fun, secure, loving and stimulating environment; and we’ve designed and purpose-built unique facilities on a Rachel’s cousin’s farm on the edge of Wetherby to provide your furry friend with a wonderful experience when they come to us for the day.

After all, as reported in The Times and The Independent, research recently published by animal welfare expert Charlotte Burns, senior lecturer in animal welfare at the Royal Veterinary College in Hertfordshire, suggests very strongly that ‘dogs become distressed by chronic boredom and can suffer adverse effects from a lack of stimulation’.

The Metro newspaper also spoke to Tamsin Durston, head coach at Dogs Trust Dog School, to ask how long a dog can be left more, and she said that ‘dogs shouldn’t be left alone for longer than three to four hours’.

Not to blow our own trumpets, but we always wanted to create the best and most stimulating environment for your dogs, and so provide lots of green space to run around in, a dog agility playground, a paddling pool, and a team that loves nothing more in the world than playing with dogs. And, if and when your doggy needs a rest and a nice snooze, we’ve built cosy individual doggy houses for them, and ‘The Playdog Mansion’, where they can chill out together and socialise in a relaxed manner.

Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it?! And all this for just £16 a day – not a bad deal, considering that the average dog walker in and around Wetherby charges £10 for an hour’s dog walk!

Furthermore, we’ve got some exciting new features and services that we’ll be announcing in the coming weeks and months!

Nearly ready to open!

It’s taken a lot of hard work, sweat (yuk!) and, erm, tears (lots of ’em!), but we’re nearly ready to open! I must start by thanking my friends, family and team for all their help and support while building up to the opening, which has included digging out foundations, building doggy houses, painting and preserving […]
